PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position manages all aspects of technology and Eschool within the district and oversees the technology staff and budget.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems (or related field)

Master’s degree in computer information systems (or related field) preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Understanding of latest network technologies and developing trends

Understanding of project management and budgeting skills

Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with employees, colleagues, service providers, and community members

Strong leadership skills

 

Experience:

Two years of management experience

Three years of work experience installing, maintaining, and repairing computer systems

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

 

  1. Formulate and deploy long-term strategic plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information processing and communication technologies.
  1. Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, licensing, and service provision.
  1. Benchmark, analyze data, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
  1. Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
  1. Manage IT department operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  1. Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users.
  1. Develop and review budgets for and from IT department and ensure they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives.
  1. Review performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
  1. Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and support of all hardware and software based on department needs.
  1. Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
  1. Manage the district’s technology budge and assist budget preparation of technology purchases through Title I, Title V-state, and NSLA.
  1. Maintain all software licensing for the district.
  1. Make purchasing decisions on all technology within the district.
  1. Work with vendors to ensure that we are getting the best prices for technology hardware and software.
  1. Work with principals to help facilitate technology needs on their campuses.
  1. Guide the administration of the 1:1 Chromebook program in grades K-12 and make sure student needs are taken care when it comes to this program.
  1. Manage the self-insurance account of the 1:1 Chromebook program saving the district and parents thousands of dollars each year.
  1. Manage the district’s participation in the federal E-rate program. This program pays for 90% of our fiber network and 85% of all internal connections such as wiring, network switches, wireless infrastructure, etc.  Since 2006, the program has saved the district $1,584,569.21.
  1. Manage the student information system (eSchool) for the district. This includes the Teacher Access Center gradebook and the Home Access Center for parents and students.  All scheduling, attendance, discipline, and transcript information is contained within this system.
  1. Ensure SFA exceptions are handled through correction of Data in eSchool/eFinance/SIS and district homepage.
  1. Ensure that counselor and data entry clerks are trained on the use of eSchool.
  1. Manage the Single Sign On system for all employees that access eSchool, TAC, ASIS, StudentGPS, etc.
  1. Manage the Apptegy Alert system used for callouts of absences, announcements, and weather related details.
  1. Works with the Director of Operations, Director of Finance, and Director of Safety on the creation of a Disaster Recovery Plan.
  1. Works with other technology coordinators, ADE, and DIS to become knowledgeable of upcoming technology needs and requirements for schools.
  1. Works with district test coordinator to ensure the availability of online testing is good.
  1. Provides intermediate level support and management for servers and related systems.
  2. Responsible for server administration and security.
  3. Installs, upgrades, and configures server/workstation hardware and software.
  4. Maintain District Camera Servers and Software as well as provide support for users of the software.
  5. Maintain all faculty, staff, and student Active Directory and Email accounts.
  6. Acts as liaison between user and vendors regarding server issues.
  7. Provide support for virtual and physical servers.
  8. Ensures data security, availability, and integrity.
  9. Maintain Access Control, ID, 3CX Phone Systems.
  10. Responsible for managing and supporting communication systems, i.e. email, messaging, website framework, etc.
  11. Establish standards for network and server integration into schools.
  12. Develops scripts and batch files to create enterprise solutions and automation of tasks.
  13. Assists with voice telecommunication problem resolution as it pertains to the District’s networking systems.
  14. Responds to technology server questions and problems; assists appropriate Technology staff during peak workloads and absences.
  15. Implements enterprise anti-virus protection for all servers and end-user equipment.
  16. Assists with performing forensic research on workstation and resource access under the direction of the Director of Technology.
  17. Trains users on hardware and software applications as necessary.
  18. Establishes appropriate preventive maintenance schedules for server and related equipment.
  19. Enter Requisitions for the Technology Department.
