Summary of Job Duties The Commissioned School Security Officer provides a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in safeguarding students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position provides security for equipment and real property in the assigned area, and communicates effectively and respectfully with members of the campus community, supervisors, and peers. The Security Officer provides information and directions as needed. This position may be assigned to a specific campus or geographical work area. The Commissioned School Security Officer will have a focus on protecting our students, be team oriented, be a problem solver, and possess the ability to remain calm during emergency and non-emergency situations.

- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree granted by a college or university which is accredited and recognized by the United States Department of Education (may be waived based upon work experience and/or law enforcement certification obtained).

- Valid driver’s license
- Conditional upon completing the Commissioned School Safety Officer training requirements
Qualifications
- Certified (Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards & Training) law enforcement and/or minimum of 5 years armed security experience
- Certification in CPR
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s)
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to resolve disputes (may be verbal as well as physical)
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
- Ability to drive motor vehicles
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
KSA’s (Continued)
- Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus
- Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal law
- Knowledge of state truancy laws
- Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures
- Proficient in basic computer programs (I.E. Word Processor, Excel, Email, etc.)

Salary/Contract/Benefits
- $28,500 - $38,500
- 240 day contract
- Vacation accrual
